UI/UX, Design Sprint

Year

2024

As part of our digital publishing initiative, my team and I were tasked with creating a platform for people to share stories about meaningful objects. The result was Natsukashii, a website that invites users to explore unique objects and the personal stories behind them. The journey begins with thought-provoking questions, leading users into the "treasure chest" where these objects are showcased.

This project was completed within a few weeks, moving quickly from ideation to realization, thanks to the size and collaboration of our group. My primary responsibility, alongside my teammate Evelyn Warsito, was to design the UI and UX, ensuring everything was ready for the developer to bring our vision to life. I also played a crucial role as a bridge between design and development, assisting with coding to make the transition smoother.

While we were satisfied with the final result, I felt the project had more potential. After the class project ended, I took it upon myself to enhance the design and code further, evolving Natsukashii into a more refined version, closer to my original vision.

Given the limited time, we quickly got started by sharing ideas and listing the project requirements, which included using at least two forms of digital publishing. We opted for three: photos, audio, and text. After outlining our diverse skill sets and the types of media we wanted to showcase, we began brainstorming.

We initially decided on a treasure chest-style website, where the chest opens to reveal objects that hold personal meaning. Although this decision was made quickly, we chose to revisit mood boards and reconvene the following week to assess improvements and explore ways to give the concept more shape.
After creating three mood boards as a team, we gained a clearer understanding of how the project needed to take shape. We then decided to sketch out the final flow for our product, allowing us to begin our individual tasks. Two team members were responsible for interviewing people and writing their stories, two focused on developing the branding, and two others worked on designing the platform. One person was in charge of implementing the design, and I assisted with the implementation process.
After finalizing the design sketch, with everyone in agreement and the branding in place, we began working on the website design. Given the tight deadline, we didn’t have much time to create multiple versions. It was a fast-paced design sprint focused on quickly developing a functional platform. The following images will showcase our final design after going over design decisions.
